Our First Week Back!

This week, my office was busy preparing my legislative agenda for this session. This session, we’re taking on safe housing and economic development, voting rights, criminal justice for youth, gun violence, and maternal and reproductive health. Click this link to see the legislation that I’ve carried during the 112th General Assembly. Look out for 2022 dates for the progress on legislation for this session.

This year, to honor and affirm the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., myself and 10 legislators across the South co-wrote a resolution to recognize the often-overlooked economic philosophy that Dr. King championed.

Simply put, Dr. King believed, “What good is being able to sit at a lunch counter if you don’t have the money to buy a meal?”

This statement still rings true to this day. In order to fully achieve the full citizenship that is promised to us in the 14th amendment of the US Constitution, we must fiercely pursue economic equity for all Tennesseans, specifically those groups who have been historically marginalized. Through the passage of this resolution, I affirm my commitment to ensure economic equity for all Tennesseans, especially Black folks. Check out our news coverage with the Black News Channel and FOX Soul’s The Black Report (24:50) for our MLK Resolution.
